[street style] turning japanese

It's not exactly a secret that I'm obsessed with Japanese street style culture. This blog's name is a reference to the style magazine, FRUiTS, in all its Harajuku glory. So, here in New York it's been a tendency of mine to ask to shoot guys who happen to be Japanese and here's why: they dress really well. Pretty much always. They don't look the same or have the same taste, but they always keep it together. There must be some cultural edict, "Thou shalt not wear an oversized Hollister t-shirt with cargo shorts and running shoes."

I love all the little menswear details of the guy in that first shot (see him and more of the guy in the very last picture here), and the cool-cat-cum-Ralph-Lauren-Western flavor of the makeup artist I ran into outside Barneys in picture 2. Then there's the measured simplicity of our man in SoHo in picture 3. He's awesome because:

1) The shoes are a really nice, formal addition
2) The jeans are perfectly cuffed to reveal the ankle tat
3) The teesh sleeves are loosely rolled, my favorite thing ever!
4) the V-neck is just the right level of V
5) The accessories - the watch and necklace - again, perfectly proportioned for the outfit. The wristband is thin, not chunky, and the necklace is nice and thin/light.

Last, but not least, is photographer Wataru Bob of An Unknown Quantity, representing the sort of post-Gothic androgynous style wave. Again - details, details! What do we think, is my obsession justified?
